How to prevent tooth Cavities

For generations the same advice has been passed down to growing kids – stay clear of chocolates, sweets and junk food. The importance of brushing our teeth twice a day and washing our mouth after every meal has also transcended time and age. But how many kids are bothered about bad breath or weak gums as they are about cavities? Tooth Cavities are the first most important Dental problem that growing kids face and thus are warned against every waking moment!

Tooth aches and cavities meant frequent visits to the dreaded dentist. Cavities were serious problems and even after growing up, cavities can pose as a threat to young & old adults alike. Unless there is proper Dental Care along with regular visits to the Dentists, Cavities will haunt kids and adults alike.

Cavities are dangerous not because it renders a complete tooth dysfunctional, but also because of its ability to spread through the adjoining teeth. They often cause such pain and damage that all the infected teeth infected will have to be pulled out. This is easily doable when the milk teeth are affected but once the permanent tooth sets it, extracting a tooth with cavity will not seem as easy.

  1. Brush your teeth twice a day:

These are the golden words every adult should practice. No matter where you are, what you eat or when you sleep, always remember to brush twice a day.

  1. Rinse your mouth regularly:

Every-time you eat something, do not forget to rinse your mouth afterwards. This simple habit will help you avoid tartar and plaque formation on the edges of your teeth & gums.

  1. Eat healthy:

Avoid caffeine, tea, sweets and carbonated drinks. You must have heard of that experiment where a tooth left inside a glass of cold drink was extensively damaged in a matter of days. This is exactly what it does to your enamel, so eating well & eating healthy is very important. Try to eat more Calcium rich food to help get stronger enamel, eat green veggies and drink lots of milk.

  1. Consult your Dentist:

Get regular check-ups done to detect any bacterial growth or cavity formation at its earliest stages. Regular visits to your dentist will also help you get more inputs to help you maintain a healthier set of teeth.

  1. Take fluoride:

Increase fluoride in your body through water, dental treatments, and fluoride toothpastes. For healthy teeth, fluoride intake is a must. Ensure kids don’t swallow toothpaste with high fluoride content.

Cavities can be avoided as long as we take all the above precautions and follow a healthy Dental Lifestyle.
